MYSTIC
The Minka House
Brentford, United Kingdom
Donated to Kew Gardens the minka house is an example of traditional Japanese building design for farmer, merchant and elders alike. Donated to Kew during the 2001 Japanese festival. Dismantled in Japan and then reassembled by Japanese carpenters who ensured the intricate joints were reinstated as the would have been originally. British builders from the Globe Theatre were also working to rebuild the mud walls and assemble the thatched roof with reeds and bamboo from Norfolk.
