Heritage Red Oak Plaque
Ajax, Canada
This 229 year old, large Red Oak was once a part of a 5,000 acre parcel of land originally awarded to Major John Smith in 1792 for his loyal service to his Majesty’s Forces, during the American Revolution. The tree’s growth is aligned with all known local historical events, including the incorporation of the Town of Ajax in 1955. The town was once the site of the largest munitions plant in the British Empire during World War II.
