Albertville 1661 through 1706. On April 8th 1699, a naval forces of French and Canadians began construction of Fort Maurepas at present day Ocean Springs, Mississippi. This French beachhead in the Lower Mississippi River Valley was led by Pierre Le Moyne, Sueur d'Iberville, native of Montreal, operating under King Louis the 14th of France.
