Cracker Homestead
Ocala, United States
Despite popular belief, "Cracker" is not a derogatory or racial term, but a descriptive nickname for early pioneer Florida families of many ethnic backgrounds. It comes from the cracking of the bull whips used to herd cattle in the Florida scrub. The homes in this settlement are either real or replicas of actual homes of families in the Ocala National Forest, including the Long family and the Godwin family.
