Cote Brilliante Presbyterian Church

Saint Louis, United States

In 1945, this church served as a rallying point for supporters of Kraemer in the landmark Supreme Court case Shelley v. Kraemer. In the decade following the decision, much of the church's white congregation moved away. In 1956, the church closed briefly and was reopened under the ministry of Rev. William G. Gillespie, who grew it into one of St. Louis' most prominent African-American congregations.
