At 12.20pm on Sunday 13 January 2008, Australian kayakers James Castrission and Justin Jones landed at Ngamotu beach. The journey from Forster in New South Wales to New Plymouth took 62 days, covering 3,325 kilometers, resulting in world records for the longest ocean crossing by a two-man kayak and the first kayak voyage across the Tasman sea.
