Water in wetlands is rich in nutrients such as phosphorus, nitrogen and other disowned minerals. Some come from runoff from the surrounding land, and some come from decomposing plants and animals in the wetland itself. Wetland plants use energy from the sun to reuse these valuable raw materials and turn them into food for insects, birds and other animals.
