Water In The Bank

Sherwood Park, Canada

Saving water from a rainy day. If you've ever played in a puddle during a rainstorm, you know that the ground cannot absorb rain or meltng snow all at once. Wetlands help reduce flooding by giving the water that stays on the surface a place to go. During dry periods, ponds and marshes slowly release water into the soil around them, helping to keep it moist. The water also evaporates, adding moisture to the air which falls again as rain or snow.
