This memorial is erected to appreciate those who enlisted in the great war from the town of Southport. The great war started in 1914 and ended in 1919. On ANZAC Day the memorial is covered in wreaths and gifts. A dawn service is also set on ANZAC Day in front of the statue. 'Lest We Forget'
