<br>An Irish patriot convicted of treason. He died mysteriously in prison in November 1798.<br><br> The memorial consists of a ten-foot figure of Wolfe Tone backed by a wall of rough granite columns of varying width and rising to 16 feet in height.<br><br> Behind the granite columns is a group of bronze figures that symbolize the past unhappy subjugation of the Irish people. This group represents the cause for which Tone sacrificed his life. He was thirty-five years old.<br><br> The memorial was unveiled by President de Valera in 1967.
