<center>Erected in the post-Revolutionary<br> period on a part of the land once<br> known as Archdale's Square, was<br> occupied the Charleston branch of<br> the First Bank of the United States<br> prior to 1800. Acquired in 1833<br> by the Hebrew Orphan Society, it<br> served as the society's hall. Also<br> for a time as the meeting place of<br> the K.K. Beth Elohim Congregation,<br> and during a later period as the<br> Hebrew Orphanage.</center>
