Stained Glass Mermaid by Tiffany & Co.

Louis Comfort Tiffany, son of the founder of Tiffany and Company, trained as a painter and then turn to the art of glass making. He invented a technique for combining colors and creating three-dimensional effects. His display of stained glass at the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893 established his reputation. The stained glass window was evidently a favorite of Tiffany's because he hung it in his studio and refused to sell it. After his death it was donated to The Field Museum. In 1941, it was installed in the Gem Hall, wherenit has been on display ever since.
