Black Hawk Statue

In 1898, sculptor Lorado Taft founded the Eagle's Nest Art Colony on a bluff overlooking the Rock River. Between 1908 and 1911, Taft designed and constructed this 50 foot monument he called "The Eternal Indian". Now known as Chief Blackhawk, this statue is dedicated to the Native American chief of the Sauk Indian tribe who fought with militiamen over contested land east of the Mississippi River.
