100 Years

Centennial commemoration of the construction of St Joseph Church. It was built by Fr Fidelius Maute and thr members over a thirteen year period, 1867-1880. Of native sandstone and timber, St Joseph Church measures 193 feet and 6 inches long by eighty two feet and 6 inches wide. The bell towet stands 235 feet high. St Joseph is "the faithful watchman" of the city, a monument in stone to the faith of our ancestors, and a beacon of God's abiding presence among his people.
