Ira Sanborn

Decatur County's first industrial list was Ira Sanborn a native of Concorde New Hampshire born in 1799 Sanborn came to Apalachicola Florida about 1830 and later resettled in Quincy Florida when he married Susan Woodson. In 1833 then moved to Decatur County and settled on Attapulgus Creek. Using waterpower he operated a gristmill, tanning, cigar and shoe factories. In 1856 he opened S a Hachi Mills which made a condom or fabric call Curci. Sanborn died on a business trip to Boston in 1865 and was buried in Concorde. That's the Hachi mill buildings were raised in 1870. Today's only the mill races and outline of the pond levy remain
