<i>(east side)</i> <b>Warren County.</b> Warren County was named for Joseph Warren, the revolutionary patriot who sent Paul Revere and William Dawes on their famous rides and who was killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill. The county was formed from Shenandoah and Frederick Counties in 1836. The county seat is Front Royal, which was the scene of one of Stonewall Jackson’s victories in 1862 during the Civil War. <br><br> <i>(west side)</i> <b>Fauquier County. </b> Fauquier County was named for Francis Fauquier, lieutenant governor of Virginia from 1756 to 1768. It was formed in 1759 from Prince William County. The county seat is Warrenton. United States Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall was born in this county. Col. John Singleton Mosby and his 43rd Battalion Partisan Rangers were active here during the Civil War.
