Ray Moz Zadeikis Memorial Sculpture

Chicago, United States

Memorial sculpture by local artist Ramojus Mozoliauskas [Ray Moz]. During his life Ramojus Mozoliauskas created more than 500 sculptures in bronze, steel, aluminum, granite and concrete. Considered one of the masters of Lithuanian folk art, his pieces are noted for their dramatic size and invention, regardless of whether he chose to work in bronze, steel, aluminum, granite, or concrete. Of particular note are his unique lettering, his stone cutter's precision with detail, and the wide variety of media he used. Many of the pieces he created are installed at St. Casimir's Lithuanian Cemetery just outside Chicago. Born in Lithuania in 1925, Ramojus Mozoliauskas emigrated to Germany as a young man, after escaping the invading Russian army following WWII. In West Germany, he attended at the School of Applied Arts [Ecole des Arts et Metiers] and studied with the renowned Lithuanian sculptor, Aleksandras Marciulionis. Following his graduation, he left Germany to settle in Chicago. He spent twelve years as a stone cutter, while honing his sculpting skills in his spare time. After opening his own studio in Lemont, Illinois, Ray began to design monuments for Chicago's local Lithuanian community. http://www.virtualmuseum.us/lith/mozoliauskas/bio.html
