Cedar Branch for Benches

Aiken, United States

Deodar cedar benches. A branch of the tree above you died in 2011 and you are sitting on a piece of that branch. Deodar cedar is a Himalayan native the "wood of the Gods" and a divine tree in the Hindu religion. There, some trees grow to a height of 180 feet. The wood is durable probably because it contains taxifolin, a flavonoid that resist insects and fungus. Oil distilled from the wood is used in Ayurvedic medicine and it is an attractive would and works nicely so it is used in temples and houseboats among other things. Because it is also brittle and not particularly strong, the legs on these benches has been made quite thick.
