Wig-Wag Flags
Augusta, United States
The alternating red and white squares at the base of the Fort Gordon garrison flag symbolize wig-wag flags. Wig-Wag flags are a binary communication method similar to Morse code developed by Albert J. Myer in the 1850s and used by Signal Corps troops on both sides in the American Civil War. Today the "Wig-Wags" are the branch insignia for the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
