Standing 18 feet tall the quintet of flames interwoven toward the heaven are the centerpiece of the of NIU's Forward Together Memorial Garden. The site stands next to the Feb 14th 2008 shooting at Cole Hall. Behind the sculpture stands five sections of granite each with the name of the students who lost their life. The sculpture was created by Bruce Niemi, a 1981 graduate of NIU. The five pieces of the flame were made in tribute of the five students. This is meant to be a place for personal remembrance and personal reflection.
