The Franciscan monks built a church and a convent on this place between 1732-1743. The church was transformed in 1876 by Ferenc Knapp who added the tower. Between 1903 and 1905 the nave was rebuilt and additional two side towers were built also, in the eclectic style by architect Rimanóczy Kálmán Jr.
