Balham Underground Station
London, United Kingdom
Opened in 1926 on the City & South London Railway extension form Clapham Common to Morden, now part of the Northern line. The station had two surface buildings, one either side of Balham High Road, with staircases down to a ticket hall below the road and escalators from there to the platforms. The surface buildings were designed by Charles Holden, responsible for all of the stations on the extension and more throughout the 1930s. 66 people were killed when the station was hit by a bomb on 14th October 1940.
