Established June 3, 1897 First resident, John McGehee settled here 1823. His wife named their home "Greenwood" which gave origin to the village, now city of Greenwood. This Avenue is named for John Montague, noted Revolutionary soldier who came here from Virginia. Erected by Star Fort Chapter, D. A. R. April, 1937
