Museum Village Natural History Museum

Monroe, United States

This building represents a 19th century "cabinet of curiosities," a collection of objects whose function was to educate, entertain, and amuse. For many people this was a chance to see a particular bird or wild animal at close range, to wonder at the size of a mastodon and to enjoy the oddities that nature had created. The museum contains in mastodon skeleton that was discovered nearby.
