Taylor Park Burial Mounds

Fond du Lac, United States

Beginning about 1000 BC and continuing until approximately 1200 AD, various groups of Native Americans immigrated to Wisconsin. Some of these people brought the custom of burying their dead in mounds constructed of piled topsoil to the state's woodlands and prairies. Thousands of burial mounds dotted Wisconsin's landscape during prehistoric times. The reason for mound burials is not known.
