Tiger Spirit; Sally Reece
Norwich, United Kingdom
Sculptural portrait of a tiger set on a plinth with four ceramic pictorial reliefs around the base. The sculpture shows the general 'spirit' of the tiger while the reliefs elaborate of four aspects of its zoological interest and ultimately its captivity. The first relief shows the tiger in its natural habitat; the second shows it being hunted in the context of the Raj; the third depicts the medical trade and use of skins; while the final relief is based on the Banham Zoo logo (incorporating a tiger's eye) connoting contemporary conservation aims.
