The Market House
Penzance, United Kingdom
A grade 1 listed (building of exceptional interest, as declared by English Heritage - the statutory body maintaining the list), the old market house is now a bank. Completed in 1838, originally to house a market, guildhall, prison cells and a grammar school, the building was designed to direct its users attention away from the vulgarity of the streets and the uninspired and often depressingly ugly uniformity of the town.
