A2-1022 Memorial at Caloundra RSL

This aircraft A2-1022 was delivered to No 9 Squadron, RAAF Base Fairbairn ACT on 12 December 1964. It was transferred to South Vietnam as part of the Australian Task Force in 1966. Together with A2-1020 they delivered much needed ammunition to the troops of D Company 6 RAR during the Battle of Long Tan on the 18th August 1966. In 1968 it was returned to Australia and continued operational duties with No 5 Squadron. At the end of its service life it was decommissioned and eventually presented to the Bogan Shire Council at Nyngan, NSW, in recognition of the evacuation of the town by helicopters due to flooding in 1990. The Caloundra RSL Sub branch Recovery Team retrieved and restored it to this condition which is circa 1966. The dedicatiob as a Memorial was held on 16th March 2012.
