Fort Waldegrave was a gun battery that overlooked The Narrows of St. John's. It was the companion battery for Fort Amherst which was located on the other side of the harbor. Originally constructed in 1798, it was named after Governor Waldegrave who was the Governor of Newfoundland and an Admiral in the British Royal Navy.
