The Conservatory at Broomfield Park

London, United Kingdom

The conservatory was built and opened to the public in 1934. The first display was of chrysanthemums and was reported on in the Palmers Green & Southgate Gazette. Owing to ongoing cuts in park staff, the conservatory was vandalised many times, including one incident in August 2003 that led to its closure due to most of its glass being smashed. The conservatory continued to decline until 2009 when Enfield Council paid for a refurbishment which allowed the conservatory to be re-opened in 2010. Today the conservatory is staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers.
