Sitting in the flood plain north of York, Rawcliffe Meadows was notified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 2013. In 1585 this was the site of a riot as Clifton men tried to demarcate a new boundary impacting on the access to Peat/Turf fuel.
