The Old Foundation

J.B. Duke began planning a mansion at Duke Farms in 1905. In 1911, construction was substantially completed on the two-level basement and service court for the mansion - now known as the "Old Foundation". J.B. Duke abruptly halted construction after the landscaping was completed and the foundation was laid.
