This bulk sugar installation began operations in June 1964. The storage capacity was doubled in 1972 with the addition of a second shed. Raw sugar is received here from sugar mills in the Cairns area. Raw sugar is transported by road in purpose built "B Double" vehicles each carrying 40 tons, and is loaded into ships of up to 25,000 tonnes capacity.
