The new building of the National Library of Latvia is one of the most expensive and breathtaking projects in Latvia's new history. The building is unofficially named "Gaismas pils" ("The Palace of Light"). Its design is inspired by a mountain of glass, described in Jānis Rainis's play "Zelta zirgs" ("Golden horse").
