Lintotype machine, Circa 1964. These machines were used in the Toronto Star's composing room for the early days of the newspaper in the 1900s to 1978. in the 1940s and 50s the Star had many as fifty Linotypes in the composing room, each one setting six to seven lines per minute. On July 1st, 1978 the last machines were removed from the Star and replaced with "cold type" or photo composition.
