Freier School - Historical Heritage

1885 - August 22nd a special school meeting was held for Joint District #3, decision was made to build at the Northeast corner of Section 9 in Ellsworth township. The school, 20 by 32 feet was built for $539, by A. H. Haight of Ellsworth, most of the lumber was locally saw basswood and maple. 1889 - an addition was approved 6 feet wide and as long as the building. 1921 - it was decided to call the school Freier School, named after the family which donated the land. 1959- schoolhouse was purchased and moved to the County Fairgrounds as a memorial to the rural schools of the county on the initiative of County Agent H. G. Seyforth.
