On 20 November 1813, Prince Willem Frederik of Oranje-Nassau put his feet on the shore of Scheveningen. With his arrival on he European mainland he claimed the soverign state of the United Netherlands after his was put in exile by Napoleon Bonaparte of France. His claim was succeeded in 1815, when the Kingdom of The Netherlands was founded. This statue is een memorial to this event back in 1813 and been celebrated every year since. At every anniversary of a decade. The whole story is enacted at the beach of Scheveningen
