The Life of the Creek
Fremont, United States
There are many different habitats associated with a creek. For example, streamside vegetation offers excellent hiding spaces for frogs, turtles and crayfish. Deep pools with in the creek offer refuge to small fish. Within the aquatic zone we can determine the health of the stream by observing the types, diversity and quantities of small invertebrates and organisms in a creek. This process is referred to as biological assessment. Some of the factors affecting aquatic organisms are: oxygen, temperature, nitrite concentration, and pH (acidity).
