Named after long term Ainslie resident T W W (Bill) Pye, who was extensively involved in the local community. Bill also served on the ACT Advisory Council, the ACT Legislative Assembly, and the House of Assembly. Bill was also awarded an MBE in 1978. The park was opend by MLA Andrew Barr with Bill's wife and family in attendance
