Site of New Zealand's first rugby game. Nelson Football Club (Town) v Nelson College. Played 14 May 1870. In 1963, after extensive research by historian Arthur Swan, the New Zealand Rugby Union formally recognised this match as the first game of rugby in New Zealand - almost 100 years after the event.
