Seventh Day Adventist Bell 1887

Los Altos, United States

The historic Pacific Press was founded in 1885 in Oakland and two years later a church for the workers was built. This bell was cast in San Francisco and installed in that church in 1887. In 1904 the Press moved to Mountain View with a new church being built in 1907 at Dana and Bailey. The bell from Oakland was installed and its steeple. It was rung each day at noon, 5:00 p.m., at sundown Friday and Saturday and that other special times. By the 1960's church membership outgrew its facilities and purchased the current property, building the existing church but without installing the bell due to city restrictions. The bell has now been remounted inside the church complex to keep within the city guidelines. It will be rung for weddings, baptisms, funerals another special events. May its voice be heard often until Jesus comes.
