<center>This marks the western boundary of Fort McIntosh,<br> erected here in 1778 in defense of the western frontier.<br> • • • • •<br> Following the Revolutionary War, a treaty with the<br> Native Americans was drawn at Fort McIntosh in 1785.<br> The occasion was guarded by a new army unit named<br> the First American Regiment.<br> In recognition of its historical origin as America's<br> first and oldest permanent army, the military unit<br> posted here was later designated the President's<br> Guard, known today as the Old Guard Regiment.<br> • • • • •<br> Dedicated May 7, 2011</center>
