Officer Sean Collier Memorial and Plaque

This memorial is a tribute to fallen MIT police officer Sean Collier.  Officer Collier was killed near this location on April 18, 2013 by the alleged Boston Marathon bombers.  The memorial plaque is made of carved limestone from a piece of MIT's Great Dome.  It is inscribed with an MIT police badge and Officer Collier's badge number, 179. The memorial was unveiled on October 18, 2013, exactly six months after Officer Collier's death.  He was posthumously inducted as an honorary member of the MIT Alumni Association on June 8, 2013.
