Alan Mathison Turing Memorial

Manchester, United Kingdom

Alan Mathison Turing (AMT) was a famous mathematician and codebreaker who played a key part in the allied victory of World War Two. He is also considered one of the founding fathers of computing. Controversially, he was a homosexual man in the UK which was at the time illegal. He was convicted and suffered chemical castration as a result. Mystery surrounds his subsequent death which was commonly agreed to be suicide by cyanide poisoning. He has since received a posthumous apology from the UK government, and he remains an inspiration to cryptographers, computer scientists, and LGBT rights activists to this day.
